Are you good
at mounting photos and remembering whence they came? Do you put them in an album with a date and place or name? Or are they still in packets with the negatives inside, left for someone’s puzzled pondering at the sectrets they they might hide?
The pictures left by Gran and Pop, all sepia stained and curled, who on earth were all these folk and in what part of the world? They probably once gave pride and joy and constant simple pleasure, but its hard to find a value now for someone elses treasure.
Is there anyone left to tell you what the photos are about? If there is, will you keep them or simply throw them out? You could mount them in a scrapbook to stop them getting fazed and write some captions on them that will keep your kids amazed.
‘Grandpa winning the Grand Prix and driving over a ton’,
and ‘This is Jockey Grandma and the Melbourne Cup she won’.
You can do these ghosts a favour and even give them fame – are you good at saving photographs and remembering whence they came?
And what about all those old songs and recitations?

Well, I’m not from the time of sepia photos. But since I arrived here photos has been my media to communicate with people in my country.
I like to collect them, and I remember the context of almost each one
